How to build good business website?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
As a beginner you should know that the most important thing that your website should have is the ability to get your visitors’ attention. The information to describe your services or products should be clear, descriptive and designed to get their attention and finally to get them to buy your services or products and indirectly this will also to establish your credibility.
Make sure your website is not out of topic. Let’s say that you’re selling gold but there’s an area in your website you talk about your hobby and links to other personal websites. Of course this will not develop your business.
Your business website should also be simple and not too complex. The complexity here means there are too many choices and links and they are not properly arranged. You visitors will get overwhelm and confused. In the end they will close your website and go to your competitors. Compare Google and the other search engines. Eventhough there are lots of information on the other searh engine hompage but I still prefer Google as my search engine because of its simplicity. In my opinion, search engine is for us to search for information or products that we’re suppose to searh on the internet not to distract us with unrelevant information or products.
Apart from the above avoid using too much animated graphics on your website. This will only slow down the access to your website. Not everybody have broadband. Most of the internet users in the world still use dial in. Unless your business is to desgn graphic for web pages, if possible don’t use too much animated graphic such as flash and plug-ins. In order to see your content, visitors have to download and install the plug-ins onto their computer. When it takes me too long to open a website I will just close it and go to the other websites. The visitors do not care about your creativity and the hardwork that you have put in to develop your graphics. What the visitors want is the information or the content in your website. Indirectly if you have more content than graphis, your findability will increase with the search engine.
Design your website in such a way it’s Search Engine-Friendly. You should provide free information and also free articles. With lots of free information, your website would attract lots of visitors and thus in a long term you’ll be recognised as an expert.
To inculcate trust you must have a secure server if you plan to collect information from your visitors or customers. Theoretically any communication between web browsers and remote web servers which via http (hypertext transport protocol) is not secure and can be intercepted. The alternative secure server is called SSL (secure socket layer). You’ll notice this when a website address changes from http to https.
Remember that your visitors came to your website to solve their problem. Hence the contents of your selling page should focus on the problems and how to solve them. The general catch is to get the visitor’s attention, relate the problem that he/she has, explain your action and the benefits they will get and this will get the visitor to react to your solution and a step closer to become your customer.
A business website should have none or minimal links to other websites because this will send your visitors away. The links should linked to other areas of your website and nowhere else unless you’re doing affiliate program. Your visitors are valuable comodity and you will only send them away to other websites with those links. If you want to put links in your website, create a page especially for links.
If you have a “contact us” page, you should be more responsive to the queries from your visitors. If you don’t have the capacity to answer the emails, don’t display your email address or invite them to contact you. If the queries are more or less similar, it’s time to update your website by creating an FAQ page. It is advisable not to put your email address anywhere on your website. This is because spammers could use spiders, something similar to Googlebot, and send out SPAM to the other internet users with your email address.
To create a good business website you need to have a HTML editor if you want to DIY or you can employ professional web designer. If you would like to DIY I recommend you to use XsitePro if you want to be successful in online business.
Another method to be successful in online business is to build a high rank in search engine and successful ecommerce website with SBI (Site Build It).
After you’ve created your business website, you might want your visitors to be kept inform of your product or services. This is because experts state that visitors need to be kept informed for few times before they make any purchases. One way to do this automatically is with Autoresponders.
It looks like I’ve written too long for this post. I’ll elaborate more on XsitePro, SBI and Autoresponders in my future post.
