There are two ways to build a website i.e. by getting professional help from web designers or you can DIY with the web authoring software available in the market.
1) Professional help from web designers
If you’re not into web designing, you can always hire web design companies or freelancers to build your website. Before you commit to any web designer, please remember to do research on the respective web designer. You should ensure that the designs correspond to what you desire by checking their previous work. You can do this by contacting the persons who give testimonials regarding the web designer that you can find usually displayed on the web designer website or you can directly approach the web designer to show you his/her previous work.
You have to be extra careful if you decided to hire web designer especially when the price quoted is too low or too high. If it’s too high, insist the web designer to show you their portfolio and if you’re not satisfied with their budgetory quotation or quality you can always look elsewhere. Please be wary also if the price is too low. This might indirectly effect the quality of your website. The price normally start from $150 and can go up to $250 and above for an e-commerce website.
It’s advisable to know some basics on how to create a website. This is because you can always update your website in the future without having to refer to the web designer. You can save your operating cost and also your time. For example just imagine that when you want to show your new product on your website, you have to contact the web designer and you have to negotiate the price and so on. Don’t you see it’s a waste of time. If you know the basic, you can update your website at any time.
2) DIY with HTML editor
To most people, website creation is totally a new experience and they have less or no knowledge at all about HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). Some will opt to a quicker way building a website i.e. by using ready made web templates that you can easilly get from the internet. This method usually used by people who are not willing to spend time to learn HTML code and learning how to write it.
If you’re more adventurous and willing to learn HTML code, you’ll need a web authoring software or HTML editor such as Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 , Microsoft Frontpage 2003 and you can even use Microsoft Word. Software like this are known as WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) which can make web design easier.
In order to use Microsoft Word as a web design software, you need to convert your document file (.doc) to HTML file (.html) format when you save your document. Just refer to the help file provided on how to create a website from Microsoft Word.
If you’re looking for a free HTML editor, just download nvu (pronounced n view) which is compatible with Linux Desktop as well as Microsoft Windows.
